On April 5th, the famous singer-songwriter Conan Gray, Olivia Rodrigo’s bestie and the artist behind Heather or Memories songs dropped his brand new album ; Found Heaven.
80’s synth pop music revival ? Kate Bush reincarnated ? Melodies that you can’t get out of your head ? Beats that make you wanna dance even in the subway at 7 AM in the morning ? Found Heaven is everything all at once !
Conan Gray already had dropped two tracks prior to the album’s release, Lonely Dancer and Alley Rose. The first being an self love anthem and the other a break up song. Both absolute bangers. The video clip for Lonely Dancers, taking place in a very Stranger Thingy kind of dinner foreshadowed the 80’s all American pop music aspect of the record.
Here's what I think : he went as far as referencing 80's songs in his tracks titles. Fainted Love ? Sounds a lot like Tainted Love by Soft Cell released in 1981. The Final Fight ? Makes me think of The Final Countdown by Europe released in 1986. Eye Of The Night ? An allusion to Eye of the Tiger by Survivor 1982 ? That would be pure genius.
My two personal favorite (so far) : Bourgeoisieses and Eye of the night (but I also love Boy and Girls, and Winner...I mean all of the tracks are so good!!)but I strongly advice you to take 36 minutes of you life to jump into a very nostalgic yet very gen z and modern musical world !
Releasing just after Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine, Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter and before Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Departments and Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft , Found Heaven falls into a first half of the year fruitful in new high level music. And for that, I thank the universe.
(Also, being a little picky here but while I love Conan Gray’s new record, I hate the its cover art. Like it’s not eye pleasing to me (even though I find Conan very good looking don’t get me wrong), it looks like it was made on his phone, on a shitty photo editing app created in 2013 sorry.)
